Branch News: 12 Jan 2010
Thank you from Audrey Weido.
I would like to personally thank you for contributing to the successful lunch put on for the celebration of life for Bill Weido. Audrey and her family were grateful to have the burden of this chore lifted off of their shoulders. Bill would have been proud of his comrades. In times like this it is so good to know that we as members of Branch 50 can band together and do what is needed…that is what being a member of a Legion is all about and I certainly appreciated the overwhelming response received when I emailed and/or made phone calls asking for the donations of food…not one person even hesitated. Many of the members contacted expressed the opinion that they missed not being asked to help out for various occasions…it made them feel, once again, that they were involved in the success of our Branch. Without dedicated members such as yourselves, we would not succeed, It is you, our dedicated members that put the distinguishing line between a down town bar and a Legion.
In closing I would be remiss if I didn’t thank Jim Meyer, 1st Vice, for his excellent job of Master of Ceremony…that was Bill’s request. To Gerry Capling, 2nd Vice, for lending us his beautiful voice in the singing of Amazing Grace. To Don Smith for the respectful speech about Bill’s loyalty and integrity as the Chief Bar Steward. To Laurie Pollock for the emotional talk of Bill’s friendship and support before, during and after Laurie’s presidency. Many people have expressed to me the fact that Laurie was a President with a heart and that was clearly evident at Bill’s Celebration of Life ceremony. My thanks also to Ron Dickson for sharing his stories about Bill and our Past Zone Commander, Harold Ash whose presence was indicative of Bill’s popularity outside of our Branch…Harold came all the way from “Hespeler” to share a story about Bill. Also a thank you to Michael Fenton for his humorous “fish” story. Lastly to Audrey’s sister Jan for giving us a look at the “family” side of Bill, his dedication to his family unit and his loyalty to them.
We will remember him.
Thank you for making my job as lunch coordinator such an easy one.
