Minor govt assistance to keep seniors at home
Minor govt assistance to keep seniors at home
There is a new bill before Queens Park called Bill 2, the Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit. This bill would amend the tax code to allow seniors or their families to claim up to a $1 500 credit on renovations to help those seniors stay at home. The Bill has been referred to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs this week.
I would like the district chairs to inform the zones and branches to get behind this bill. Those Legion members that have good relations with their MPP should let them know that they support this type of bill. Government is glacier slow due to system design flaws.
The big Nursing homes are not going to support a bill that keeps seniors in their homes. Legion is grass roots and this is a good place to start with our goal of developing a VIP plan for seniors. The NDP before the election had even greater promises about keeping the seniors in their homes. I met with the opposition party prior to the election at their request but they really weren't good listeners about our suggestions. They were more interested in seeking our support of their platform.
Please get the word out to the branches about the Healthy Homes Tax Credit. Please ask the district PRO to put a brief notice in the websites and newsletters.
Thank you very much
Greg
